Stags with Margam Castle in the background |
February 2006 saw the re-launch of The Friends of Margam Park. The objectives of The Friends are to conserve and enhance Margam Country Park, to protect the natural beauty of the Park, raise the profile and increase public awareness of this wonderful area, and to work with the local authority for the benefit of the park. One of the main objectives of late has been the construction of a new cycle track and the purchase of bicycles. Very soon groups and families will be able to book the bicycles and discover a variety of wildlife and scenery as they cycle along the signposted and designated routes. The project has involved a considerable commitment by The Friends and was only possible following grants from the Sports Council of Wales. The Friends also undertake weekend work in the Park of a gardening and conservation nature. Guided walks within the Park and around its perimeter are also occasionally conducted by The Friends. It is immensely satisfying to know that The Friends' efforts are recognized by visitors to the Park as well as the Park Staff who are always extremely supportive. If you would like to join us and help support Margam Park, come into the site and see what is on - maybe you would like to contribute either with your skills or by making a donation. It is an honour to be the Chairman of the Friends of Margam Park, but above all it gives me and the members an opportunity to improve the 850 acre Park which makes an extremely valuable contribution to an area that traditionally has grown up with an industrial background. Thank you. Nigel Fitzhugh. Chairman of The Friends of Margam Park. |
